just call me picassa

[picasso was already taken, so i'll go with picassa. feel free to call me that from now on.]

this was my first attempt at a "sip and sketch" painting class. i'm not sure which one i did more...sip or sketch. but judging by the outcome, i didn't do as bad as i had anticipated. it's slightly more challenging than your typical paint by number activity in elementary (cough...middle) school, but for a perfectionist like me...not too shabby.

court was patient and gracious enough to bear with me when i got frustrated over my black grass or leaves that looked more like clusters of grapes. i think i might even go again. i'm not sure what i enjoyed more though, the peach chardonnay or the painting. either way, it was a blast and i'm grateful for friends like courtney that are willing to go on groupon adventures with me. yay us.

pine antics

well, this year my mom thought it would be fun to do a real tree. yes, i'm 25 and i've never had a real tree. we've had the same perfectly symmetrical fake tree all my life. and i love it. but mom wanted to buck with tradition and start a new one. no one objected. secretly, i think she just wanted help decorating because she does it by herself each year. but by waiting until i got home on the 23, she was guaranteed 4 sets of helping hands (the sis' boyfriend was here too).

so yes, we went down to the nearest lot (mom had scoped them out the day before) and picked out a lovely 7 footer that had minor blemishes in the plump department, but it just adds character in my opinion. we hauled that puppy back and promptly set her up. the pictures can tell the rest...

on the lot...

...and we ran out of lights. so the sis and i set out to buy more...

...mom and the sis adding more lights. notice how much darker it is outside at this point. we literally hunted all over town to find lights. that's what we get for waiting until the 23rd...

...my view of the final product from my perch in the corner of the sectional. this is prior to the sudden fall that i caught with my leg. yeah, we had to re-decorate this puppy because all the ornaments decided to fling themselves onto the floor when she fell...

...and this is the next morning. she safely made it through the night thanks to mom's barricade...

...and dad's whack job helped hold the tree up for the night too. who knew scrap wood blocks could be so useful?...

...new tree stand purchased on christmas eve morning and our tree is good to go. she hasn't made any more efforts to fall, so that's been nice. decorating and re-decorating isn't so much fun when it's christmas eve...

i hope your christmas was slightly less eventful, but that you made some fabulous family memories like we did. happy new year!!

be strong. think fit.

that's my mantra every time i run. last night i ran a 3.6 mile adventure race at picnic island park in south tampa. it was fun to get out and see a part of town i hadn't explored, be surrounded by new people of all ages, and get in a good workout. i set out with the goal of running sub 40, but wasn't sure how that would work out with the sheer number of people that were running (there's always the bottleneck issue) and the fact that we were doing some trail running, running through mucky creeks, sand, and the bay. i didn't make my sub 40 goal, but i was close all things considered. most importantly, it was an adventure and it was a blast.

yesterday afternoon i wasn't terribly excited about the whole race and was pretty unmotivated to tell the truth, but i'm glad i laced up my shoes and went. it was lots of fun. and i got filthy!! i took a few pictures of myself pre and post race to share the experience with you as best i could.

sorry if this grosses you out, but i earned a pretty legit blister. it's actually a blister on top of a blister. we all know how i love my battle wounds.

these trusty fellas got absolutely filthy. they're caked in sand and muddy muck. so worth it.

post race i picked up an info card about a mud race later this summer and i just might have to run it and cross that off my bucket list too. until then, happy running!!
