diy diaries: dishwasher detergent

it's been a while since i posted a diy diary...or a blog of any kind for that matter. you can blame the complete upheaval of my life for that one. more on that in a later post. in the meantime, i ran out of dishwasher detergent yesterday so i made another batch and figured i'd share the recipe with y'all. enjoy!

i found the recipe here, so don't give me credit for that by any means. i'm just spreading the love. here's what you'll need:

  • 2 cups borax
  • 2 cups baking soda
  • mixing bowl & spoon
  • storage container

measure and place the borax and baking soda in a bowl, stir, and pour into your container.

the recipe is one part borax to one part baking soda, so adjust your amounts based on the size of your container. i used 2 cups of each because it fits perfectly in a medium sized mason jar (complete with a nice little label that makes my heart happy).

total time: 5 minutes
total cost: $2.11
lasts: 6-8 months

fill your dishwasher detergent slot 3/4 full and then close the lid and run your cycle. it's such a simple recipe and it works! not to mention, i always have borax and baking soda on hand which means i can whip up a batch in a pinch like i did yesterday. grin.
