diy diaries: upholstery cleaner

in light of spring cleaning and all the less than desirable cleaning tasks that pop up this time of year, i thought i'd share a recipe i love for a simple upholstery cleaner. it kills dust mites, fleas, bed bugs, and any other nasty little critters i like to pretend don't exist. i just sprinkle it on my mattress and leave it for about 2 hours before vacuuming it all away.

here's what you'll need:

  • 1 cup borax
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • (optional) 6 drops essential oil(s) of choice (i used the doTERRA serenity blend)
  • 1 small mason jar with lid (16 oz.)

mix everything in a bowl and be sure to whisk away any chunks from adding the oils.

pour everything into your mason jar and poke holes in the top to create an easy dispenser. then, if you're like me, whip out your label maker, slap a label on it, and call it a day. grin.

total time: 10 minutes
total cost: free (i already had everything on hand!)

happy spring cleaning!

That is a great recipe for cleaning upholstery! And I really like how it doesn’t involve anything that might soak into your couch and seats, and you can just use a mini-vacuum afterwards to clean all the mess up. Thanks for sharing it with us! Cheers!
