it gets in your blood

it's true. and it's a wonderful thing. the south is more than a place. it's a way of life.

it's y'all and yes ma'am to everyone and their mother. it's holding doors open. it's grits for breakfast. it's smiling to strangers and having them smile back. it's slowing down and taking your time. it's porch swings and sweet tea. it's dresses on sundays. it's cheerwine and RC cola and a moonpie. it's green beans with bacon grease, creamed corn, chicken and dumplin's, buttered biscuits, fruit salad, and milk. it's country style steak, mashed potatoes, and peas. it's wrap-around porches and big white columns. it's dogwoods, oaks, and weeping willows. it's speaking slowly. it's honeysuckle and blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries off the vine. it's knowing everyone's name, but still calling them honey, darlin, and sugar. it's making the phrase bless your heart part of your vocabulary.

yes, the south is a place that will get in your blood and stay forever. and i like it that way. because the south is home.
