all kinds of awesome

The Book of Awesome: Snow Days, Bakery Air, Finding Money in Your Pocket, and Other Simple, Brilliant Things

about this time last year, i bought a book called, the book of awesome. i love it. it's a list of things in life that make you say, "awesome." each one is followed by a short description and most of them have me shouting "amen" countless times. pasricha really hit the nail on the head with this one. such a fun read.

i've listed some of my favorites below so that you can get a taste of how fabulous this book really is. i highly suggest buying it and stashing it somewhere like your bathroom for a good light read when you have a few minutes here and there. you'll be glad you did.

things that make you say, "awesome!"...

the other side of the pillow
"the other side of the pillow, folks. because it's flat when you're sagging, fresh when you're stale, and cold when you're hot, baby. AWESOME!" (p.4)

wearing underwear just out of the dryer
"it's like skinny dipping in a hot tub, jumping on a horse that's been in the sun all day, and lying on a warm, sandy beach...combined!" (p.7)

having a whole row to yourself on the plane
"you can almost pretend that you're magnificently rich and paid for the other seats just to buy yourself some breathing room. because let's be honest: flying ain't always a lot of fun and that extra elbow room can make the difference between three hours of misery and three hours of bliss." (p.28)

being the first table to get called up for the dinner buffet at a wedding
"yes, if you're up first you walk back to your table a newly crowned king, sitting down at your chair-facing-the-bathroom-at-Table-57 throne, lord and ruler of your much-too-loaded plate of rolled-up salami, potato salad, and gherkins." (p.32)

hitting a bunch of green lights in a row
"if you've ever blown through a string of green lights in a row, how does it make you feel? i've got just one guess. AWESOME!" (p.46)

sleeping in new bedsheets
"as you close your eyes softly, crickets chirping outside your window, moonlight and tree branches shadowdancing on the walls, you know right then and there: it's going to be a good night." (p.54)

when the thing you were going to buy is already on sale
"your wallet stays fat, your smile stays fresh, and you ride the fast lane straight to Penny-Pinching Heaven." (p.87)

live unashamedly :: laugh uncontrollably :: love unconditionally.
